A Brief Overview of the Good Things About the OnePlus Watch
Good battery life and quick charging Good screen, sound and high-end tech-y things all make for a good smartphone – things that’s been the case with many a smartphone before it. The first smartwatch from OnePlus has come. After all the hypes, the Oppos Watch has finally joined the affordable smartwatch war after many years of anticipation. And though it doesn’t have the wow factor that some smartphones have, it does the job well enough, with sufficient features to make it a hit in the Android and Apple smartphone segments. And much to its credit, the price is reasonable, coming in at just over $400.
But is this price enough to make the smartphone market crunch into the red zone, or will it flop? If you’re looking for a phone that can give you a comprehensive GPS tracking experience combined with the ability to run some serious fitness apps, then the answer is yes. But for everyday use, most of us will find ourselves looking for something cheaper, like the iPhone, HTC Desire or Motorola Cliq. The latter two phones do offer great value for money, if you want to do everything smartwatches can do and still get plenty of screen real estate. However, they are still relatively big compared to what is on offer from OnePlus Watch.
The biggest selling point of the smartwatch is undoubtedly its high-end tech-y stuff that let you do some serious fitness exercises while you are out on the go. You can synchronise your workouts on your computer with your smartphone, so you can keep track of your gains or losses in real time. That’s not all – the phone also has a heart rate monitor, a calendar, a GPS navigation system, a built-in VoIP tool, a calculator and of course, a host of other fitness and health-related apps. The only way to really take advantage of all this is to charge your phone whilst you are away, which explains why many people buy a full-charge watch.
The phone’s face is a clear and vibrant display, and the Android interface is smooth and fluid. The hardware keys are responsive, but I found them a little rough to use. My main gripe was with the bright, large icon on the top right-hand corner of the screen. It’s easy to accidentally click it when you are trying to scroll down, and there’s no obvious shortcut to get to it. This is a small gripe, however, in comparison to some of the slack support the software provider extends to users.
One of the watch’s main selling points is that it uses the Android OS 4.4, which Google claims is faster and more efficient than Apple’s iPhone. One of the watch’s main features is that it supports “labor” and “workout modes”, which allow the user to switch between various workouts in real-time. These workout modes can include things like circuit training, yoga, aerobics, and more. I have used many of the apps that come pre-installed on the Android Wear 2.0 smartwatch, and while they do a fantastic job of tracking my heart rate and exertion levels, they sometimes make my workout seem too passive. Thankfully, the OnePlus Watch has a bright screen which makes the workouts a lot more exciting to watch.
Apart from the workout modes, the watch also provides a few basic features that most smartphone smartwatches don’t. For example, it sets alarms and can even track your mileage and determine your speed for driving. The two features are incredibly handy, and are things that I wish more manufacturers would adopt for their wearable tech devices. Other apps that the smartwatch has to offer include things like the Google Maps smartwatch, the Health app, and its parent company’s weather application.
One of the main things that many people will be looking for in their new smartwatch is the battery life of the device. If you look at many reviews and product comparisons, you will quickly realize that the last few popular products on the market all feature terrible battery life. Luckily, the OnePlus Watch features an internal storage system which is extremely impressive and allows the device to last one week or more without having to be charged. If you want to save some money whilst not having to constantly worry about your watch going dead on you, this is definitely a feature worth checking out.
Finally, one of the best things about the OnePlus Watch is its price. While many devices in its class cost hundreds of dollars, this is a product which is priced at just $99. For this price, you get a brilliant health monitoring features, stylish looks, high quality battery life, and solid construction. The great thing about these devices is that they combine the best technology of traditional watches with the convenience of modern smartphones, making them perfect for anyone who wants to stay on top of their health.
